WOW! Have you ever cried so much? Now I know exactly what JKR was talking about when she said she was howling when she wrote that chapter near the end of the book. I couldn't even breathe. I was right with almost all of my theories. I had the Snape/Lily thing, I knew the trio would surivive as would Ginny. I also had Wormtail, Remus, and Voldy on the chopping block. I was wrong about Neville and Hagrid though. I was also wrong about Harry the Horcrux. I really didn't want anything to happen to the twins, but more than that I didn't want one of the to die. I took Fred's death very hard. I loved the whole bit about the Deathly Hallows. I mean, c'mon - JKR is absolutely brilliant. I do admit thought that I was having a bit of trouble with the dialog in the first 5 or 6 chapters. It really wasn't working for me at first. I need to go back and read it again. The rest of the book though was the most intense of all the books. I am still having a hard time coming down. I need to totally explode - or maybe just sleep. My eyes hurt from lack of sleep and rivers of tears.

i cried from the beginning when dudley shakes harry's hand. it was so intense! oh when lupin, tonks and fred are laying there i just sobbed. i had to take a break after harry faces voldemort in the forest. oh dobby!- sobbed when everyone comes into the room of requirement-sobbed lupin announces the baby's birth-tears again. and when harry is asking his family/friends if it hurts to die??? it was a nose runner for me all the way thru!
one question:
JKR says that someone in the book who couldn't do magic will be able to do magic late in life. does anyone know who it was? i didn't see it.
how bout snape not only loving lily, but lily being his best friend?

I just finished the book myself. I handed it over to our daughter..she's still up even though it's 2:30am, she knew it was her turn soon. I think the book was fantastic, but like Ivy, I had some problems keeping up with some of the story. I have a terrible head cold and am a little slow because of the cold meds. I'll go back and re-read the book when my brain isn't messed up. We went to the party at Barnes & Noble last night and had a blast. They had to block the doors, with the managers, because the building was at capacity(750). The line of people waiting for someone to leave, so they could get in, was huge. Some of the first people to get the book were asses...they went outside read the last part, and were yelling the ending to people when they left.

I think of all the books, this will definitely be the hardest to transfer to film. I have all the books on my ipod and listen to them over and over. I don't know how I'm going to handle listening to this one. There were at least 6 occasions where I was completely in tears.
Oh, one of my favorite parts was after Ron destroyed the horcrux and you think he and Hermione are finally going to kiss (I was crying) and then Hermione starts beating the hell out of him. That was really funny in total JKR fashion.
When Harry is talking to his son Albus Severus and is telling him that Snape was one of the bravest men he ever knew (sob). No wonder he yelled at Harry not to call him coward.
I read at a coffeee shop for the first two hours after I got the book. I didn't cry with the Dursley's, but oh, poor Hedwig. That was my first bout of tears. I'm glad I decided to read the rest of it at home. I would have been a sorry state bawing out in public!
Rowling did say somebody would show magic later in life, but I guess it didn't happen. There really would only have been a few candidates, the Dursleys, Mrs. Figg, or Filch. None of them did any magic in the end. How about Petunia though, writing to Dumbledore asking if she could go to Hogwarts. damn, the whole Snape chapter blew me away even though I knew he that he loved Lily. I think I need to re-read the last few chapters again. They were really, really amazing.
For the record, I didn't have a hard time following the book, I just wasn't crazy about the dialog in the first few chapters. It sounded like fan fiction, not JKR. The lines were really corny.
**edit** OH! How about when Molly called Bellatrix a beeaatch and attacked her!!! I really thought Neville would be the one to take her out, but Molly was really awesome.

When Molly called Belatrix a beeaatch and killed her I laughed out loud. I always knew Molly had it in her. I also loved how Kreature was redeemed. Whe he hits Mundungus with the frying pan and asks to do it again - it's priceless.
For a good portion of the beginning (when Molly was acting weird), after Moody dies, I was suspicious that Molly may have been Imperious cursed.
Amazing. Simply amazing.

Did anybody think Tonks betrayed the Order at the beginning? I didn't really think so, but I wasn't sure. Also they said that Ted Tonks fixed Harry up, but I had the impression he did it magically when I knew he was a muggle. I thought maybe Ted was an imposter.
Jo said that we would learn about the teacher's relationships (marriages) in this book, but we didn't. We also didn't find out about James and Lily's professions.

All of the stories I'm hearing about people reading the book bleary-eyed and sleep-deprived reminds me of the 'Lord of the Rings' movie marathon they did a few years ago, when "Return of the King" debuted in theaters.
Several movie chains held marathon screenings of the special editions of the first two movie movies back-to-back, followed by a premiere midnight showing of 'Return of the King'. Of course the fans were geeked, but the running time of the extended editions of 'Fellowship of the Ring' and 'The Two Towers' is close to seven hours - a long time to sit in a theater chair! By the time 'Return of the King' showed, many of the moviegoers were so bleary from discomfort and lack of sleep that when they went back to see the film for a second time - after some sleep - they were shocked at how much they didn't even remember from the premiere! I read several posts that went something like, "I watched the movie and I was like, 'I don't remember seeing that the first time!'"
I'll bet that's how it is here. Those who read the Deathly Hallows a second time will likely find passages they don't remember from the first time! But there's something very satisfying about being among the first to experience anything...
Congratulations to JK Rowling, who did something seemingly impossible in this day and age. She got people excited, lining up at midnight and staying up till all hours, all over a BOOK. Hooray for the printed word! :-)

Sarah, I agree with you. My plan all along was to plow through it the first time and then read it slowly the second time. I will download the audiobook as soon as it's available on itunes. That is going to be completely gut-wrenching.
